Kate Hudson: Film is powerful

Kate Hudson thinks the ‘beauty’ of movies is that they ‘invoke conversations’.

The Hollywood actress appears in political thriller The Reluctant Fundamentalist alongside Kiefer Sutherland, Riz Ahmed and Liev Schreiber.

In an interview with moviehole.net the journalist suggested that the movie will alter the public’s view on the September 11 tragedy and the groups vilified in the wake of the shattering news.

Kate is thankful films wield such power.

‘I’m trying to think of something specifically that had a real effect and changed my view on something. I think the thing I love about film is that it’s not necessarily about the ideas trying to change your mind but as to invoke a conversation or make you think about something or see something from a different perspective,’ she told the website.

‘You see a movie like Flight and you kind of see it from the perspective of a man whose life is just falling apart at the seams. But somehow you connect with it and you go on this journey with this man. That’s the beauty of film. You get to step inside a story for two hours and it becomes a conversation.’ Continue reading Kate Hudson: Film is powerful

James Franco, Kate Hudson And Omar Sy Team Up For Good People

Kate Hudson has never had much luck with critics. With the exception of Cameron Crowe’s brilliant Almost Famous and Gerard Stembridge’s dramedy About Adam – both of which came out in 2000 – the actress has never been in a film that has managed to get higher than 60% (a.k.a. a “fresh” rating) on Rotten Tomatoes.

But perhaps teaming with Omar Sy and James Franco is just the ticket she needs to put her negative streak to an end.

Deadline reports that the trio of actors have signed on for Good People, a new thriller from Danish director Henrik Genz that will also be his English-language directorial debut. Adapted from Marcus Sakey’s novel by Kelly Masterson, Paul Grellong and Christina Hodson, the movie tells the story of an American couple living in London who have fallen on hard times.

Their luck seems to change, however, when the tenant that lives below them dies and leaves behind 200,000 pounds in cash – but, as the trade notes, “that’s when very bad things start happening to good people.” The site doesn’t mention what roles the three actors will play, though production is scheduled to start at the end of next month.

Hudson has most recently been playing a recurring role on the hit television show Glee, while Franco was recently in theaters starring in both Sam Raimi’s Oz The Great and Powerful and Harmony Korine’s Spring Breakers.

Sy, who broke out starring in last year’s The Intouchables, recently started production on X-Men: Days of Future Past, which will be in theaters next summer.

Joel Edgerton talks Great Gatsby wardrobe

Joel Edgerton has opened up about his best fashion moments in The Great Gatsby. The Australian actor stars as Tom Buchanan in the hotly-anticipated film adapted from F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic novel.

Joel’s costumes were so elaborate, the design detail even extended to the lining of Tom’s jacket.

‘There’s a Skull and Bones insignia sewn into it that may not even be visible,’ Joel told Empire magazine. The Skull and Bones is a secret Yale University society that Joel’s domineering character had been a member of.

Director Baz Luhrmann’s wife Catherine Martin was the costume designer on the film, which also stars Leonardo DiCaprio in the title role of Jay Gatsby and Carey Mulligan as Daisy, Tom’s wife and Jay’s love interest. Working from Baz’s ‘bible’ of period references including Harold Lloyd box sets, F. W. Murnau and Raoul Walsh flicks, Catherine tracked down a series of terrific suits for Joel and Leo’s characters.

‘I also went through Brooks Brothers’ archives to find out about Gatsby’s suits,’ she said.

Catherine also delved into Tiffany & Co.’s archives as part of her research of the Roaring Twenties. Clients of the iconic New York jeweller included real-life Daisy Buchanan, as well as Fitzgerald himself.

‘We didn’t want a nostalgic 1920s. We wanted a modern 1920s,’ Catherine told press at the unveiling of the collection in New York last week. ‘So there had to be a sensibility about history, but there also had to be an actuality about it. And I think that’s why Tiffanys just felt so right. Because there’s a sense of history, but also a modern company moving toward the future.’

Jewellery pieces of note include a Savoy jewelled headband worth more than $100,000 and a 3.25-carat diamond flower ring worth more than $875,000, both worn by Carey.

The Great Gatsby hits screens from May.

Anna Friel: Master Cleanse is fantastic

Anna Friel says the Master Cleanse is an amazing anti-ageing treatment.

The 36-year-old actress drinks up to 12 cups of a steaming hot cayenne pepper, maple syrup and lemon juice concoction a day in a bid to look younger.

The detox programme, which is favoured by stars including Gwyneth Paltrow, involves replacing solid food with the drinks.

‘It’s amazing. I’ve been drinking it for two months and I feel so much better and my skin has really benefited. If you’re vain, as you get older you start thinking, ‘I’ve got to do everything I can to save my skin,” Anna joked to British magazine Grazia. ‘I’ve tried everything.’

Anna has also resorted to vampire facelifts to maintain her looks.

The technique, also used by Kim Kardashian, involves extracting blood plasma from the body and injecting into the face.

‘Vampire facials involve taking two vials of blood from your arm and reinjecting it back into your skin. It’s meant to help your skin heal itself and boosts collagen. It makes my skin really glowy and tight again,’ Anna explained. ‘And I always have a Cryoderm treatment before a red carpet.’

Cryoderm uses a machine to first heat the skin to stimulate collagen production and treat lines. The temperature is then brought right down to freezing.Despite her extreme methods, Anna is not averse to using at-home remedies in her quest for eternal youth.

‘People say I look really good afterwards following a Cryoderm treatment. I also do the old-fashioned method at home, where I fill my sink with ice cubes and hold them on my face for a minute,’ Anna admitted.

‘I felt sick recently because I found one or two grey hairs and I read that curry leaves help to maintain your hair colour , so I mix them with hot water and drink it as a tea. I’m always searching for pure, natural skin products and Trilogy is great for that too, their Everything Balm is fantastic.’
