Saoirse Ronan only recently wrapped filming Wes Anderson’s The Grand Budapest Hotel and is already looking ahead to her next project: a role in Ryan Gosling’s directorial debut, How to Catch a Monster.
Stephenie Meyer‘s The Host, Ronan couldn’t reveal details about her character in the upcoming film, but says she is looking forward to working with Gosling.
“I think it’s going to be very experimental,” she says of Monster. “I think Ryan is going to be very supportive as a director, just because he’s an actor as well and he gets it. From what he’s been telling me about the approach he wants to take, he wants us to really discover these characters ourselves and use our imaginations to create these characters.”
Ronan will star opposite Christina Hendricks, as a single mother who discovers a dark underworld, and Eva Mendes.
“He’s already written great characters on the page,” Ronan adds of Gosling, “but he wants us to develop those even more as people. I like that he’s put so much trust in his actors to do that. I think it’ll be really fun and really cool.”
Ronan says the cast will begin rehearsals in the next “month-and-a-half or two months” and will begin filming in May.
Of working with Anderson on set in Germany, Ronan notes: “It was brilliant. You’re basically just stepping into Wes’ world, and that’s it… You feel like you’re becoming a part of that family for a certain amount of time.”
